US Immigration Bill Delay Advantageous To Canada
Foreign degree holding professionals who are employed legally in the United States on working visas and whose permanent residence application in the U.S. are in jeopardy should set their sight on Canadian immigration as better option in becoming permanent residents of North America.
The United States is presently struggling to develop a sound immigration policy that will be both acceptable to Congress, businesses and the voters.
Early this year (2007) the Congress of the United States of America have rejected the Immigration Bill that was being pushed in the House by some immigration supporters. Pro-immigrant congressmen, senators and businesses are asking that the quota for an H1B be increased to more than 85,000 but is now in limbo at the House and may not be visited again by its members until after the November 2008 elections.
Because of this, Canada has become a viable alternative destination for those whose working visa will lapse in the US and can also be a better choice for those without status. This latest development also has put employability in Canada more attractive for professionals. One good example of which is a report about Microsoft’s announcement of opening a software development center in Vancouver.
So, how do this group of people can come to live and work in Canada?
One option is if the interested worker can find a Canadian employer who will be willing to hire him/her. Under this condition, the prospective overseas worker may obtain a working permit from Immigration Canada thru his/her employer.
This is the quick solution and is highly popular among foreign professionals whose H1B visa are about to expire and will not be renewed by the American employer.
The other option and probably the better choice is to apply as an independent immigrant to Canada. Foreign professionals who have work experiences from the United States of America or from any part of the world have a great chance of succeeding as Canadian immigrant.
They do not need an employment offer and does not require a relative to sponsor them to Canada. They can apply directly on their own merit.
In short, the US is not the only attractive place to live and work in the North American continent anymore. Without a widely accepted immigration laws in place, highly qualified professionals might choose Canada over the United States in search of better opportunities.
America’s loss is Canada’s gain.

This bill of which you speak had nothing to do with immigrants. It was a bill to make Illegal Aliens into legal citizens. Illegal aliens are not immigrants and the people who support them are Globalists, illegal alien supporters, not pro-immigrant.
But you have to admit that it’s also affected the application of those people who were legally in the US (as students and workers) but otherwise were not able to secure an immigrant visa.
A friend of mine recently moved to Canada, after having studied in the US for more than 6 six years, graduating with an MBA degree in San Francisco.
If she were allowed to apply for a resident visa (green card), she would have been practising today in the US and not in Canada.
I have been visiting this site a lot lately, so i thought it is a good idea to show my appreciation with a comment.
