More Immigration Solution To Australia’s Skills Shortage

Skills and manpower shortage is forcing many small businesses all over Australia to close, this according to newspaper reports from Perth and Brisbane lately. Because of low birth rate among its own citizens, Australian local and federal authorities acknowledge that more worker migrants is the only solution to this compounding problem that industries are facing. There is a strong demand for highly skilled trades people, such as machine operators, but very little manpower available so that even bigger businesses and industries are enticing those qualified with high salaries and other benefits. Several trades and skills included in Australia’s Migration Occupations in Demand List or MODL may entitle those future applicant for extra points for an Australian visa.

Australia’s Minister of Immigration, Hon. Kevin Andrews just recently talked about the skilled manpower shortage in Australia as a reality that must be corrected immediately if the nation wanted to continue to sustain its economy forward. He was quoted as saying that the shortage are felt particularly in Western Australia and Queensland.

The Western Australia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) is requesting the government for an increased visa approval for skilled workers applying from overseas. Their chief executive told reporters that the group is working hand in hand with all branches of government as well as with their employer members as to how to help business and industry meet their needs for labor from foreign trades people.

They indicated that by allowing more overseas skilled worker to enter Australia will solve the growing labor needs of the country temporarily, until such time that officials can find a more innovative way to work things out.
