Immigration Consultants And Lawyers - Who’s To Be Trusted?

Immigrating to live and work in another country has become a worldwide phenomenon the past two decades that immigration consultants, specialist and lawyers started to sprout all over, specially in countries open to new immigration as well as in those nations where great numbers of people leave their home countries to escape economic troubles, political and/or personal persecution.

A good number of this prospective immigrants are educated and skilled people who depend on immigration professionals for advice and eventually hire their services to help in processing their papers so they can continue with their jobs while at the same time preparing to migrate.

Because of this popular demand, many unscrupulous people, whether they are really immigration consultants, lawyers or just pretending to be one, started to take advantage of those people in need. In light of this bad image floating around regarding the immigration profession, who can you really trust for an honest advice and services?

Below are a few pointers to look for before hiring an immigration firm of professionals.

Let’s start off with Experience. You have to know how long they have been doing immigration work and their history. Do they have the ability and skills to answer any immigration situation that you will encounter? Let’s take lawyers, for example. A lawyer, after graduating, does not necessarily need training in immigration work to pass the bar. Even if they say that they have practiced law for 20 years, does not mean they have handled immigration cases.

While it’s true that immigration consultants specialize in immigration matters, it does not necessarily mean that they have covered all aspect of immigration practice even if they claim to be in the business for 20 years. Like working an appeal case, for example. In any kind of business, specialization is the key to being called a professional.

Another characteristic of a professional is their training and background. Lawyers study all kinds of law in general. They have studied bits and pieces of law pertaining to real estate, family and other areas. This may seem peculiar but immigration consultants, generally, are more knowledgeable in immigration work than lawyers are. That is if the lawyer is a general law practitioner. If it so happen that you found a lawyer practicing general law, you have to ask first, how much experience they have in immigration law and how much attention are they putting in immigration practice.

Otherwise, if you don’t want to bother asking those, you have to choose an immigration law specialist lawyer.

Professional development, training and affiliation with professional association are others that you should look out for in finding an immigration professional. Inquire about where they obtained training or their formal education or if they have specific education and training pertaining to immigration. Regular seminars on professional development is one of the most important aspect of the immigration business because of constant changes in immigration laws.

If the consultant or lawyer you are planning on hiring practices in a country or province or state where the profession is regulated by the government, so much the better. You can check their credentials with the regulating body or you can ask the the consultant yourself.

It is also a good idea to ask for references and know the integrity of the person you plan on hiring. Are the advice the person is giving up to date? Does the consultant delivers information without misdirecting some issues or try to mislead statements? Did they seem to portray any relationships with government representatives in their talk with you?

The factors mentioned above are initial guidelines in choosing the person to represent you in your new immigration application. A professional immigration consultant or lawyer who is critical of his/her integrity will tell you exactly what to expect and would always evaluate his/her own professional development not only for themselves but also for their clients. It is for your own good to find someone who will understand your needs and can work with you until you reach your goal.

Disclaimer: The immigration article posted above does not substitute as a legal advice on immigration issues. If you need to consult a qualified professional about your case, you can visit a qualified immigration professional in your city or country. Use due diligence in doing so.

    Hello,
Please have a look at my query. Iam kunal . My Father is from Nepal,so I hold a Nepali Passport. My real age is 22years But my passport shows 17 years. I applied for the Tourist Visa 2 times last year, and I got Rejected. And then Again I applied for Student Visa this Year and again Got Rejected. And All this I did in Nepal.

But Now My girlfriend who is an American Citizen wants to come and Marry me. I can’t marry her in Nepal because Iam just 17 years according to My passport.

My Mother is Indian. So I hold an Indian Passport too. I know this is not legal. But my Indian Passport shows Iam 22 years. Which is good for marriage. So please if you can just tell me can I call her to India and Marry her in India, and do All the processing from India. Will it create a Problem. Will the counslers come to know that I already have a Nepali passport and have applied 3 times from Nepal. Please suggest me what to do?.

We both Love each other a lot. Please reply me back.
